Prophet 600 Membrane Panel Installation Tips

Please read through this ENTIRE document before attempting to affix your new membrane panel.
This is not instended to be a step-by-step instruction.  Installation requires some skill and know-how.  If you do not feel comfortable after reading this, please seek out assistance from your local guru!

SCARY WARNING STUFF:
ONLY WORK ON PROPHET 600 WHEN UNIT IS UNPLUGGED
DO NOT BEND OR CREASE MEMBRANE PANEL OR RIBBON CABLE
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE PANEL ONCE IT IS AFFIXED
ONLY REMOVE BACKING WHEN YOU HAVE READ THIS DOCUMENT AND FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH INSTALLATION.
Bending or removing panel will cause irreperable damage!

Whew!  With all that out of the way, and youre feeling confident, lets move on.

With Prophet 600 top panel opened, the old membrane removed, and the old adhesive cleaned from the metal surface, place a bright light behind the left panel PCB where the panel used to be.  A smartphone flashlight will likely suffice.  DO NOT use any lights that are hot and may melt you or your synth.

It will look something like this:

DO NOT REMOVE ADHESIVE BACKING YET

Next, do a test-fit of the new membrane panel.  Run the ribbon wire into the slot (but DO NOT plug it in) and carefully line up the LCD function lights and number window.
Properly aligned, all the LCD windows will be red and the display window will be visibly aligned.  Improperly aligned ones look like this (notice the LED windows are not lit):

A properly aligned panel will look like this:

Once you have the feel for how to properly line up the new panel, you can now remove the backing, re-insert the cable through the panel slot and affix the new panel.  After doing so, carefully insert the ribbon into the ZIF connector on the panel board .

Reassemble and enjoy your once again functioning Prophet 600!
